About R.F. Maston:

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Robert Francis Maston records and performs under the abbreviated "R.F. Maston". On mostly broken and antiquated recording equipment, Maston builds his songs up track by track, painstakingly layering each instrument. The results have been described as "quietly intelligent pop, with focused lyrics and a genuine sense of the importance of melody". Maston's songs display a maturity that defies his 20 years and carries with them the sound of his native Southern California landscape.

THE FUTURE is R.F. Maston's debut album; the fruits of seven months of labor hulled up in his home-studio. Playing every instrument himself, Maston's songs come to life with the full band arrangements present on much of the album.
These shambling folk/rock songs are augmented by the dreamier, pensive numbers that display Maston's knack for crafting gorgeous melodies. THE FUTURE functions as a cohesive piece of music, permeated with themes of disillusionment and the uncertainty of the future, while retaining a unique charm that will bring you back for repeat listens.

After playing live frequently this past year, R.F. Maston will continue performing up and down the California coast as well as heading back into the studio this spring.

Press for "THE FUTURE"

"'The Future'...is quietly impressive. A thoughtful and considered piece of music, its charms and delights will win you over if you seek it out ...It is an album of quietly intelligent pop, with focused lyrics and a genuine sense of the importance of melody. This is a very impressive debut, which hopefully will lead to a bigger audience for this fine singer."

-Oceans Never Listen

"I’ve had The Future on repeat since I got it. Something about the vibe I get from his mellowed-out indie folk reminds me of the Juno soundtrack, but I find R.F. Maston’s music more lasting and more interesting ...He plays all of the instruments on the album himself. I guess some people are just disgustingly talented like that."
